Mr. Roger Eugene Broom, age 81, of Fort Mill S.C., passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Sisk-Memorial Baptist Church in the sanctuary. The funeral ceremony will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Reid McAteer, Rev. Gene Flack and Rev. Norman Philbeck officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill. Born in Fort Mill, S.C., Roger was the son of the late Glenn Eugene Broom and Sarah Emily Perry Broom. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War Era and continued his 20 years of service in the Naval Reserves. Roger worked at Siemens-Westinghouse for 30 years and retired from the generator manufacturing division in 2003. Roger was a life-long member of Sisk Memorial Baptist Church, which is where he met his wife, Patricia Helms, while they were still just kids. He was an active member of the congregation and served as deacon for many years. He had a passion for carpentry which he used to help build the church fellowship hall at Sisk. He volunteered for numerous mission trips where that passion continued. Roger is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia Helms Broom and their children, Kelly Broom Cox (Stan) of Opelika, Alabama, Carrie Broom Totherow (Jimmy) of Fort Mill and Ben Broom (Rhonda) of Clover; ten grandchildren, Wilson Cox, Parker Cox (Kayly), Harris Cox, Braxton Cox, Emily Ainesworth (Chad), Leanne Schwartz (Josh), Grace Houghton (T.J.), Zoe Broom, Clayton Broom; great grandchildren, Gabriel Ainesworth, Nathaniel Schwartz, Donovan Schwartz and Samuel Ainesworth (on-the-way). He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Peggy Bolin, Merle Kissiah, Charles Grady Broom, Jimmy Broom, and Bobby Broom and granddaughter, Eva Hope Totherow in 2008.
