Gerry Michael McLoughlin was born on June 19, 1963 and died on February 6, 2024. Gerry was born in Warsaw, Indiana but spent his infancy in Clemson, SC. He grew up raising cane with his brothers in Charlotte, NC. Gerry was an integral part of the community. For some of Gerry’s siblings who may not know the word, integral means necessary to make a whole complete. Gerry served as a patient escort at the hospital. He was the comforting and strong guy that wheeled you or walked your wife and parents from the emergency room to a room or waiting area in the hospital. Gerry was the tall and kind cashier at the old Eckerd’s Drug store who took too long talking to the old people in his line, came from behind the counter to help nervous parents find the Children’s Tylenol, and took money from his own pocket to buy a stranger a Snicker’s bar. Gerry was the delivery driver with a wagon-wheeled truck bringing supplies or food and drink to many of the city’s storm water and park development crews. Literally, he had a wagon wheel affixed to the front of his truck. In his retirement, Gerry was the neighbor who gave the mailman a cold Sprite on a hot day and provided great music from the amplifier in his she-shed to many citizens in Fort Mill. Gerry was also a life-long member of the mental health services club at Billingsley Rd. He preferred to visit there on Mondays because the Wednesday regulars could be a little crazy. Gerry played the guitar at the church on occasion and tried to encourage his mother not to sing the hymns too loudly in her fellow parishioners’ ears. His lifelong passion was spending time with his friends, family and his dogs. To paraphrase Neil Diamond (1972), “Captain Sunshine” on Moods. Gerry didn’t make much. He didn’t take much. But he was a pure man and made so many feel fine.A Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Philip Neri Church in Fort Mill, SC, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 11:00 am. Gerry was predeceased by his father Nelson Edward McLoughlin, Sr., his brother, Nelson (Nels) Edward McLoughlin, Jr., and his dog Missy. Gerry is survived by his mother, Pamela McLoughlin; his siblings: Jeffrey (Tamara), Ron (Kristen), Sean (Brooke), Ted, Donna, Paul, and Erin; his nieces and nephews: Zach, Alex, Matthew, Maiden, Asher, Preston, Colton and Mila, his Great Pyrenees Gracie, and his many lifelong friends, loving cousins, aunts and uncles. The family would like to thank Dr. Bruce Noll for his friendship and guidance over the many years, Mr. Greg Conner for the care and kindness he provided Gerry and the family in the last few years, and Gerry’s many friends and extended family who provided him great comfort and peace in his final days.

Gerry was "THE NEPHEW!" From day one he so inviting, respectful, genuine and warm. He was my kind, gentle giant. We would sit and talk about any and everything. Our passion for animals and people made our communications, and time spent so easy and long lasting. Every time in your presence brought calmness, enlightment, laughter, fun, and conversation about our next visit. Gerry, you made it so easy to love you. You will be missed so much 😢. Rest easy dear nephew. Your Uncle Mac & Aunt Brenda 💐
